We’re starting the new year off with a good precursor to our continuing work on the King James Version of the Bible for Zondervan. Verily, Verily: The KJV – 400 Years of Influence and Beauty is a remarkable book about the history of the King James Bible. It’s interesting history and a good introduction for reading the KJV. Since we are also editing a new audiobook version of the King James with all celebrity readers and the bulk of it is ahead of us, this was a great way to prime the pump after the Christmas holiday. Not only does it go deeply into the origins of the King James version and it’s influence on the English language, it also dispels a lot of myths surrounding this translation and the origins of the Bible in general.

Short Stories

One of my favorite forms in literature is the short story. I’ve always loved them from the time I was a kid, reading Hitchcock or Sci-fi anthologies or Stephen King collections. I’m of the opinion that many authors are just better in the short sprint and it’s often how they get started. I’ve also been fortunate enough to enjoy editing many audio shorts compilations over the years, from the non-fiction Operation Homecoming and Growing Up Ethnic in America, to the fiction realm, including the entire Best American Erotica series, edited by Susie Bright, to Maps in a Mirror, the complete short fiction of Orson Scott Card.

More recently we’ve worked on a couple of perhaps under appreciated, low key numbers. First up is Imaginings, an anthology of visionary literature, edited by Stefan Rudnicki. It’s an amazing journey through time, space and myth. We got to do a lot of interesting music mixes on this one which includes pieces from Robert Silverburg to Euripides, Poe and Dubois.

I’ve also been editing a series of short fiction, a couple per month, with some great readers and authors. Each is being released as a podcast at Lightspeed Magazine. My personal faves include “Amaryllis”, read by Gabrielle DeCuir, and “The Zepellin Conductors Annual Gentlemen’s Ball,” read by Rosalyn Landor.
